At times it pains me to see how carelessly the word love is thrown around. It is so simple for it to roll off the tongue yet that small 4 letter word holds so much within it. It holds a myriad of dreams, hopes and promises - many of which we fail to live up to. I could easily say that I love someone, but what do I do to prove that? Buy them flowers? Hold the door? Compliment them? Those actions are so superficial and may pass for a while but after time goes by, those things will not spark any deep emotional connection. They will not be the same as someone that stops to truly listen to what you have to say, prays with you, cares about your dreams and what you wanted to be when you grew up. 

The same goes for God, I will swear up and down that I love Him but more often than not, the things I do turn out to be superficial actions posing as acts of love. I give zakat but I miss a prayer, I wish peace upon a passing Muslim but forget to send peace on the Prophet, I thank the Imam for giving me advice on life and forget to thank Allah for giving me life. I have to remember to invest myself wholeheartedly into the relationship I want to sustain with my Lord. I need to stop these superficial gestures of love and worship and devote my heart completely to Him.
